Cleveland Clinic May Add Second Helipad
The Twinsburg Family Health and Surgery Center is hoping to add a backup helipad in the next few months
Twinsburg may have another helipad in its future.
The Cleveland Clinic Twinsburg Family Health & Surgery Center is hoping to build a second helipad at its 8721 Darrow Road facility.
“It’s another, smaller adjacent concrete pad in case there is a helicopter already on the existing pad,” Larry Finch, city planning director, said.
Some residents have already lodged complaints about the noise created by the Clinic’s lifelight helicopters. Finch said the new plans would only bring in a new chopper in emergency situations.
“The intent is not to double their flights, but to land one if a helicopter is already on the pad,” Finch said.
Twinsburg Patch was unable to reach a Cleveland Clinic representative for comment.
The hospital will seek a conditional use permit from the city to build its second helipad, which would be a smaller version of the current one.
“It’s a slightly reduced version of what they have,” Finch said. “It’s a smaller design used for a backup location.”
According to Finch, they hope to have it built sometime this summer.

The Cleveland Clinic has yet to resolve the issues with the disturbances from their medical helicopters, and the city is ready to grant them a permit to build a second helipad? Residents in certain areas of the city already experience flyovers more than 2 times within a 24 hour period. Some as early as 4:30 AM. I truly find it hard to believe that there are that many medical emergencies requiring these helicopters. Also, I've yet to see the pilots maintain a flight path that keeps them over I-480 while going through Twinsburg, which would alleviate a great deal of the disturbances. At what cost are city officials going to just ignore the residents just to please the Cleveland Clinic?
