Cuyahoga Valley Republicans Hosting Convention Watch Party Thursday Night
U.S. Senate candidate Josh Mandel and U.S. Congressional candidate David Joyce are expected to attend.
The Cuyahoga Valley Republicans are hosting a convention watch party Thursday night at the Community Center.
This event is one of nine convention watch parties listed on Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign website, and the only one in the Cleveland area.
The Cuyahoga Valley Republicans, a grassroots conservative organization based in Brecksville, voted to endorse Romney in February. The group has played integral roles in previous elections, said President Dom Sciria.
“We’re flattered and honored that they called on us,” Sciria said.
Thursday is the last night of the 2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa. Attendees at the Cuyahoga Valley Republican’s event are scheduled to be joined by Josh Mandel, state treasurer and Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate and David Joyce, Republican candidate for the 14th Congressional District. And, Sciria said, guests can expect a message direct from someone on the floor of the convention. According to an email for the event, that person is expected to be Sen. Rob Portman.
Josh Mandel was invited to attend Meet The Candidates Night in Twinsburg on Sept. 13, but according to Matt Cellura, president of the Twinsburg Republican's Club, his campaign said he would not be in attendance.
The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and end a little after 9 p.m., giving people time to get home and watch Romney’s speech on TV, Sciria said. During the event, the convention will be live-streamed to the Community Center, and refreshments will be available. RSVPs are requested, not required, and attendance is free.
