Great food and music at the Oktoberfest and Taste of Hudson too

The symbolic end of of summer has arrived.

1. Geauga County Fair

Why Go: It's the oldest county fair in Ohio. Over 13,000 exhibits. Over 2,000 animals. Enjoy rides, games, fair food, vendors, motocross, demolition derby, cloggers, live music and so much more. Go to geaugafair.com for complete schedule of events.

Pricing: $7 general admission for anyone age 12 and over, most grandstand events require additional cost. Free Parking.

2. Oktoberfest

Where/When: Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, 164 Eastland Rd., Berea

Friday, September 2, 5 p.m. to midnight.

Saturday, September 3, noon to midnight.

Sunday, September 4, noon to midnight.

Monday, September 5, noon to 9 p.m.

Why Go: It will help you transition from summer to fall. Enjoy beer gardens, microbrew competition, traditional German food and pastries, traditional German music, 23 international dance groups, the Cleveland Pops, live Glockenspiel, professional art on display and for sale, rock bands, and more.

Pricing: $10 general admission, children 12 and under free. Get $2 discount vouchers at Discount Drug Mart and Marco's Pizza, or go online for $2 off. Free parking.

3. Cleveland Air Show

Where/When: Burke Lakefront Airport, 1501 Marginal Rd., downtown Cleveland.

Saturday, September 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, September 4, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Monday, September 5, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Cleveland skies will be full of flyovers by modern jets, stunt planes and historic aircraft. See over 50 flying machines up-close on the ground at the airport including the United States Air Force Thunderbirds, a World War II P-51 Mustang and a Vietnam era F-4 Phantom. Various other exhibits and family activities as well.   

Pricing: $21 adult general admission, $14 child general admission. Get $2 off admission price with ticket purchase at Discount Drug Mart.

4. Cleveland Labor Day Parade and Picnic

Where/When: Corner of Snow Rd. and Clearview Dr., Parma Heights.

Saturday, September 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: It's the official Cleveland area holiday parade that's traditionally sponsored by the region's AFL-CIO. Enjoy the picnic held after the parade is over. This year's host is local labor representative and activist, Harriet Applegate

Pricing: Free and open to the public. All ages.

5. Taste of Hudson

Where/When: Hudson Green, 80 N. Main St., downtown Hudson.

Sunday, September 4, noon to 8 p.m.

Monday, September 5, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  

Why Go: This is the seventh annual edition of this tasty event. Enjoy food from over 20 restaurants and chefs. Visit the beer and wine gardens. See the luxury auto show, the fine art or the multiple booths of exhibitors and sponsors. Don't miss the music and entertainment on several stages. Also enjoy the Western Reserve Academy Antiques Festival on Monday, just a stones throw away from the Taste of Hudson event downtown at 115 College St.

Pricing: Free admission to entire event, food and beverages available at various prices. Antiques Festival on Monday requires $8 admission for anyone 18 or older.

6. Cleveland Indians Baseball Game

Where/When: Progressive Field, 2401 Ontario St., downtown Cleveland.

Monday, September 5, 1:05 p.m.

Why Go: It's Union Day on Labor Day, and your Cleveland Indians are still in a pennant race. They battle the team just ahead of them in the standings, the Detroit Tigers. Many seats for this game will be up to fifty percent off, with some starting at only $5 per ticket.
