HCR ManorCare broke ground Tuesday for its new Heartland of Twinsburg rehab and nursing care facility.
The 2425 Highland Road building should be completed by December 2013, creating 140 new jobs, according to Doug Mock, regional director of operations.
"We felt this was an area that was underserved," Mock said about placing the company's eleventh facility in Northeast Ohio.
"If all goes well it will be a 14-month project," he added.
Heartland will feature 24-hour skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services for short-term patients transitioning between the hospital and home.
It will feature a 2,000 square-foot gym for physical, occupational and speech therapy.
"We are very excited," Mayor Katherine Procop said. "There is a great need for rehab in our community and they're a welcome addition to our city."
"This is just one more great business to help us move forward," Tim Edgington, Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce president, said.
The facility is expected to house up to 120 patients.
