Myrtle L. Ross, 94, donated Herrick House to Hale Farm and Village
She was born in the historic building that was dismantled and relocated from Twinsburg to the farm in Bath in the 1980s
The John E. Herrick House, in which Myrtle L. Ross was born in Twinsburg, was dismantled and relocated to Hale Farm and Village in Bath in the 1980s.
Ross, who with her family donated the structure to the historic village in 1981, died Dec. 29 at age 94.
She and her husband, Oscar, who died in 2003, owned and operated the Quality Market grocery store in Kent for nearly 20 years.
Ross, whose maiden name was Simonds, graduated from Twinsburg High School and received a teaching certificate from Kent State Normal School. She taught preschoolers before she was married in 1946.
In addition to Twinsburg and Kent, she had lived in Silver Lake and at the Stow Glen Retirement Community.
Ross belonged to Daughters of the American Revolution, Kent Historical Society, Kent Women’s Club and Silver Lake Women's Club.
She volunteered with Campfire Girls, RSVP (now called Retired Senior and Volunteer Programs) and Woodland School Senior Reading Program.
Survivors include her daughters, Pat Bilderback of Stow and Elaine Lewis of Silver Lake; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Bissler & Sons Funeral Home in Kent.
