Chief Christopher J. Noga is pleased to announce the promotion of Officer Thomas Austin to the position of Sergeant in the Twinsburg Police Department.

Sgt. Austin, a 17 year member of the department, is a graduate of Euclid High School. He earned an associate degree in criminal justice from Lakeland Community College.

During his time with the Twinsburg Police Department, Sgt. Austin has served in the Patrol Division. Additionally, he has served as a juvenile officer, a member of the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force, a field training officer and a public information officer.

Sgt. Austin served as a director of the Twinsburg patrol officers bargaining unit for a number of years and currently serves as the Executive Secretary for the Ohio Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association.

"Tom Austin is an officer who understands how important it is to lead from the front and not from behind," said Chief Noga. "He brings a wealth of ideas and strategies to the table and will help our officers develop and grow professionally."

Sgt. Austin lives locally with his wife and daughter. He was sworn in privately on Tuesday by Mayor Katherine Procop and will publically take his new oath of office at the Twinsburg City Council meeting on Jan. 8.

He replaces Sgt. James Tobak who retired on Oct. 1 after 34 years of service to the City.
