As we thank Mother Nature for the warm weather that she has given us this spring, we try to think back to the last time the weather has been this good at this time of year; but we can’t.
The crazy thing is that the weather in Cleveland this year on Opening Day will be sunny with a high of 50 degrees, and PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING!?!?!
If you are one of those fans who are complaining about the Opening Day weather, let me stop you and say count your blessings. This Opening Day will mark the fifth anniversary of the famous 2007 "Snow Out" and I was there in person.

I was a junior at at the time and I have never been to an Opening Day before. It was Good Friday and everyone had school off that day. I got the tickets for my 17th birthday on November 15, 2006 and the temperature was a high of 48 that day. On April 6, 2007, the high on Opening Day was 33! The weather was better on my November birthday!!!
It was by far the coldest game that I have ever been to and I felt that I was at a Browns game in early April! The whole field was covered with snow an hour before the scheduled time. Easter weekend felt more like Christmas! Did Santa and the Easter Bunny switch jobs?!?!?

The Indians and the Seattle Mariners did take the field after a while and did play a few innings. In order for a game to be official, 4 ½ innings must be played if the home team is ahead, 5 if the home team is behind. Right before the game would have been official, former Tribe skipper and Seattle manager at the time, Mike Hargrove, pulled his team of the field because “they couldn’t see the ball in the snow fall.”
After a while, they officially called the game and considered it not to be a complete game. It was like the game never happened and I was so mad. I waited months for this and Mother Nature looked Cleveland in the eyes and said “Snow way, Jose!” By this point, everyone was so cold and wet, they just wanted to go home to warm up.
This January, I was at the St. Ignatius/St. Ed’s outdoor hockey game at the Jake (Yes, I called it the Jake) and the weather was exactly what I expected weather in Northeast Ohio to be like in January. I sat in my seat with my cup of hot coca. I looked at my two buddies and said “Sadly, This isn’t the coldest game that I have ever been to here!”
So, if you are going to Opening Day, enjoy your sunny 50 degree day and GO TRIBE!
