I can’t believe that is almost here! Only six days away from the 2007 ALCS rematch in Fenway.
For those of you that do not know me that well, let me just start off by saying that I hate the Boston Red Sox more than any other team; not just in baseball, but all of sports. When I tell people that, their first reaction is, “You hate them more than the Yankees?!?!” And to be honest: Yes.
Here is my reasoning for my hard feelings against “The Nation,” and please read this with an open mind. Think back to before the 2004 World Series, before the curse of the Great Bambino was over. They were the American League version of the Chicago Cubs. They didn’t win a title in a lifetime, they manage to blow big games and America rooted for them because nobody wanted to see the Yankees win.
Once the Red Sox won the World Series, they turned into the one thing they hated since the beginning of time: The second coming of the New York Yankees. The Red Sox hated how the Yankees would win because they had a priceless payroll, the “fans” that they had all over America and the media coverage they would religiously get.
But once 2004 World Series was over, “The Nation” was created and everyone “loved” the Red Sox. The Sox were spending a lot of money on players, ESPN turned into Red Sox TV, and people were buying Red Sox caps! I would like to ask those fans one question: Before the 2004 World Series, where were you for 86 years?
Look at my theory like this: Say that for the first three years of high school, the Ted Sox had braces on their teeth, glasses, bad skin and were made fun of by the popular girls. Then the summer before senior year, they got a makeover and became pretty like "The Plastics" in Mean Girls. The new life gets to their heads and they start treating other girls badly like the popular girls once did to them. You just want to put them in their place and say “Hey, remember when you were ugly and were picked on?”
In my eyes, the Yankees are just doing their job being the “popular girls.” Yes, I will always hate them but I have to respect the fact that they haven’t changed their personality for anyone. Boston turned into the person that they once hated and I just want to say “Hey, remember when no one supported you not too long ago?”
But that is why I hate the Red Sox more than the Yankees. Call me crazy but I’m just being honest!
