Does Pittsburgh Deserve Good Baseball?

Good baseball in Pittsburgh deserved?

Throughout my high school years, fellow classmates of mine would jump on the Pittsburgh Band Wagon and “celebrate their team’s championship.” Mind you, these students have never lived a day inside of Pennsylvania and never will.

The same continued during my college years when the Steelers won another Super Bowl and the Pens won the cup. The difference this time around was that I attended college with many people from Pittsburgh, actually natives/fans.

Pittsburgh fans like to get in Clevelander’s face and brag about their championships, yelling & screaming about how much they love Pittsburgh sports. But there was one topic that was always hidden until a Cleveland fan wanted to shut them up….

Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball

These loud mouth fans would always say “I don’t like baseball, so I don’t care,” and then try to turn the tables on you by trying to find something against Cleveland to talk about.

Pittsburgh hasn’t been good for years, well, more like decades. This might be the year that October baseball is played in PNC.

I have a few questions for my readers:

  1. Do you think the Pittsburgh has treated the Pirates as a “Red headed step child” for years?
  2. Do you think the Pirates will win the NL Central?
  3. Do you think the Bucs will battle the Tribe in the 2012 World Series?

Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section below!

Being a Steelers, Indians, Cavs, and Pens fan... I can say that Cleveland's Sports base has completely fallen off #Sad. PS The Pirates SUCK and always will! Cleveland in game 4 lol

Having been born and raised in Pittsburgh and attending grade school, middle school and high school during the Decade of Champions in the City of Champions, I can sincerely say that YES, Pittsburgh does deserve good baseball. It has been a while since the likes of Chuck Tanner and Jim Leyland steered the team, but this new guy - Clint Hurdle, along with this players seem to be on a very impressive role. I agree with part of what Adam Miller has said - Cleveland Sports base has completely fallen - the Pirates will live to fight, play and win come October! Go Buccos!

I do feel that the Pirates have been treated that way for the past 20 years. Its hard when you have 2 other very successful teams in your city, and then one god awful team. Although back when Pittsburgh was the city of champions, the Penguins were the odd man out, now all 3 are competitive. The Buccos will most certainly not win the NL Central, the Reds are just too good, but they will make the 1st or 2nd wild card spot. As for the Indians, they should be happy to finish in 3rd just ahead of the Royals and Twins, although that would be nice, its always a good series to watch when both teams play very close to one another.
