Tips for Girlfriends of Sports Fans: Birthday Gift Ideas

For all you ladies that are dating a sports fan, you have it pretty hard. There are days that you want to go out with him but you can’t because he has tickets for the game. There are nights that you want to watch a “Rom-Com” but he takes the remote and turns the channel to check the score of the Tribe game. There are times when he gets a million text messages, not from another girl, but from his idiot buddy from high school trying to make a trade for his fantasy football team & all you want to do is sit down for a quiet night alone with him. All those things are easily forgiven when he makes up for it by showing you how much he cares for you but there is one thing that stresses you out the most when it comes to dating a sports fan: What to get him for his birthday.

Face it ladies, when it comes to your birthdays, you tell him exactly what you want & he will do his best to grant your wish.  The thing that stresses you the most is when you ask him what he wants for his birthday, he always says “Whatever is fine,” and this becomes a personal mystery.  Luckily for you gals, I’m stepping up to the plate & cracking the code for all of you. Tickets: Believe it or not, ladies, all your man wants to do is spend time with the two things he loves, you & his team. If you buy him anything for his birthday, buy him a pair of game tickets. You might be asking yourself “How do I know what seats to get?” and “What game should we go to?”  When it comes to seating, as I just said, your man loves you & his team. He will be happy no matter where you guys sit. Don’t get me wrong, he would rather have first row behind home plate than nose bleeds in the right field corner but no matter what, he will be happy because he is at the game & at the game with you! When it comes to what game to go to, it does not matter. Buying him a game against the Yankees would be cool but getting him a game against the Mariners is good too. He will be excited that his girlfriend is taking him to a game.

Clothing: If you want to buy him a shirt of his favorite team, I mean, you can but you will run into a few problems. The first problem is that you do not know what he already has. I’m sure he has more than enough team t-shirts already. If you buy him a shirt with a player’s name on the back, make sure it is a player who he likes. If a girl got me a Luis Valbuena t-shirt, I would not know what to do! Please, Ladies, do me a favor & do not put your man in an awkward situation by putting a bum’s last name on his back. Ladies, let’s be real for a minute, his mother has been buying shirts for his birthday since the day he was born. Nobody wants to date their mother. Let his mom buy him t-shirts. So, avoid buying him shirts for his birthday and buy him something special instead. Truth be told, if you buy anyone a shirt, buy one for yourself so you have something to wear to the game (Yes, the shirt can be from the Victoria Secret Pink Line).

Other Gifts: If you think that a pair of game tickets is too small of a gift and what to add another gift to balance it all out, then you have a few options. The best gift
to add to the tickets is a dinner at his favorite restaurant. It is very simple and a way to his heart is through his stomach. Then at the dinner, you can give him the game tickets as a present. This works very well because his birthday might be during the off season and his team may not be on the field for another 4 months. So now, he has something to look forward to and gets a great meal. When he tells his buddies that you took him to his favorite restaurant & got him tickets to a ball game, they will say “No way dude! All my girlfriend got me for my birthday was a lame t-shirt that my mom already got me!” You will look like an all-star to him! Your boyfriend doesn’t care about material items; he just cares about his team and his girl.

Final Thoughts: All your boyfriend wants for his birthday is to feel loved. He doesn’t want his girlfriend to buy him a giant cake or some expensive pair of shoes. He just wants everything he loves to be together, his team and his girl.
