First Congregational Church Celebrates 190 Years

The church celebrates its 190th birthday Saturday with fun and games at the church and on Twinsburg Square

The is still going strong, even after 190 years.

The church, founded on Aug. 23, 1822, is celebrating it's .

"There is a sense in which our church feels their beginnings are here in Twnsburg and the beginning of their faith journey started 190 years ago," Minister Kay Krejci said.

Krejci, in her fourth year at the church, said there is more to bring forth and she hopes to serve Twinsburg in a way that gives hope to the community and beyond.

"The people here have felt a renewed sense of enthusiasm," she said. "With the Holy Spirit among us, it's a time to celebrate with others."

While looking back is important during this time, Krejci is even more excited about what is to come.

"While we celebrate the past we anticipate the future," Krejci said.

"We're all very excited about this," Kathy Lessman, the church's office manager, said.

Lessman has been apart of First Congregational for nearly 26 years, serving in her current role as well as substitute organist and a co-coordinator for the 190th celebration.

She believes the church fits well in a city and town full of rich history, and hopes residents recognize how precious this milestone is to Twinsburg.

"I think it's something special they can point to," she said. "It's something to be proud of."

The church will celebrate on Saturday with events and games for the entire family including cake walks, three-legged races and more at the church and Twinsburg Square. 

The festivities will begin at 3 p.m.

Lessman said she hopes people from all over Twinsburg will join to celebrate this monumental occasion.

"Seeing the community hopefully come together this weekend will be a pretty rewarding and enlightening experience," she said.
