Great Escape: Take Dad to See the Gladiators
No, Russell Crowe won't be there, but you can see great arena football action
Dads deserve their day so why not treat yours to one of America’s greatest past times. Buy him some peanuts and crackerjack, and tickets to a football game. That’s right, football in the middle of summer.
I’m talking about one of Cleveland’s often-overlooked sports, the Gladiators indoor football team.
The Arena Football League (AFL) began in the 1980’s and is the highest level of professional indoor American football. It is played on a smaller field than outdoor football, which guarantees much faster-paced, higher scoring competitions. Cleveland joined the league in 1997.

The AFL season runs from March though the end of July, so there is plenty of time left to see a game. So far this season, the Gladiators have six wins and five losses. A complete schedule, roster, stats, photos and news can be found online at www.clevelandgladiators.com. All home games are played at air-conditioned Quicken Loans Arena.
It’s a pretty safe bet that blazing temperatures are here to stay for the next few months. Help dad beat the heat while root, root, rooting for the home team at a Gladiators game.
