Did You Write to Huell Yet? Help Put CV on TV

The TV show host who "celebrates the people and places of California" ought to come see Castro Valley, don't you think? Here's how to help get him here for a visit.

Here are the addresses you need to help get Huell Howser, the sunny host of KCET-TV's California Gold, to do a show about Castro Valley.

California's Gold
4401 Sunset Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90027

CV Patch blogger and CV Legends host David Ashton is spearheading a campaign to win the popular public TV show host's attention.

To learn why David started this campaign, click here. He elaborates on his reasons in an Aug. 11 blog post, "Castro Valley's Moon Shot."

He wrote: "Castro Valley needs something to unite all of the disparate factions and areas, we need something to rally behind. I have found the locus where all things Castro Valley shall converge."

To see the new Facebook page he created about the effort, click here or go to www.facebook.com/BringHuelltoCV.

So far the Facebook page has 62 "likes," but David hopes to get a minimum of 98 "likes" ASAP to top the number on a rival page dedicated to getting Huell to host the popular comedy show Saturday Night Live. To help boost the numbers on Castro Valley's effort, click on the little box with a thumbs-up symbol and the word "like," which appears at the top of the Facebook page next to the page's title.

On Tuesday, David reported on the fan page: "Actual progress being made, I have a real, sit down meeting today. Not with Huell, but with like minded individuals who want to make this happen. Building the foundation."

If you don't know who Huell is or haven't seen the show, you're in famous company. Homer Simpson, the buffoonish lead character in the animated satirical sitcom The Simpsons, had trouble getting Huell's name right in a tribute to Huell's 25th anniversary with KCET-TV. Click here to watch that clip.

To catch a whiff of Huell's folksy charm, relaxed demeanor and radiant disposition, click here and listen to Huell sing California Here I Come.

TV Guide calls him "the happiest man on TV."

If you haven't heard of KCET-TV, it's a public TV station that specializes in programming for Southern California and the Central Coast. The station says on its website that it has the largest geographic reach of any public station in California with its signal carried over-the-air and on virtually every cable and satellite system throughout 11 counties.

To see clips from Huell's show, click here, here and here. In this clip, Huell opens with a vintage film about Yosemite.

If the videos are stuttering, drag the circle on the timeline below the video back to the start position and wait a bit. This will allow the video to load more fully before you begin looking at it.

Awww, c'mon Gato. There are LOTS of reasons: Rowell Rodeo's history, Castro Valley's Wineries, Lake Chabot, Pyzanno's Pizza (home to world pizza throwing champion), Knudsen's Ice Creamery, Loard's Ice Cream, JD's, the whole Castro Valley sign scandal...we've got it all! :-)
