Sunday, May 8, is the day set aside to celebrate mothers everywhere (although any astute child will tell you every day was made for that). But for those who can't come up with any ideas, here are a few suggetions.

Patch Picks: Five Great Steps to Celebrate Mom's Big Day

  • Flowers are a great way to start things out. Unless she has allergies, then you may be in trouble for this first step. No one likes to start out on the wrong foot.
  • A great, new alternative to candy this year. It says, "I think you're the sweetest mom, but without all the fat."
  • Of course you have to get a card, these guys practically made the holiday. But a word to the wise: Don't just go with the card's words, get creative and speak from the heart!
  • Hartville Kitchen: Yeah, it's a bit of a drive and gas will take your savings account. But even though your culinary skills may not be up to par, you can still give mom a heck of a meal with some down-home flair.
  • Quality Time: No, this isn't a restaurant or a store. Most parents love thoughtful gifts, but the best of all is just time together. Talking, laughing, spending time is the best gift you can give mom this Mother's Day.
