Twinsburg Woman Celebrates 100 Years Of Life

Louise Piro, born March 7, 1911, was honored for her milestone by the mayor and City Council on Tuesday night

It’s a feat that few can say they’ve accomplished, but celebrating your 100th birthday deserves a weeklong celebration, and Louise Piro did just that.

Piro, born March 7, 1911 in Adena, OH, capped off her birthday festivities by being honored with a proclamation from Mayor Katherine Procop and City Council Tuesday night.

“This is a very special occassion for the family and the community, and we are very happy to celebrate that with you,” Procop said.

Surrounded by her son Tony and daughter Marianne, as well as several other family members, Procop read the proclamation, chronicling Piro’s life and achievements.

After growing up in Adena, she moved to Cleveland in 1947 to work at the Container Corporation of America. Three years later, she married Nicholas Piro, a widower with two children, Tony and Marianne.

They lived in Cleveland’s Little Italy before moving to Maple Heights. Piro loved riding horses, embroidering, cooking and baking.

After 48 years, Nicholas and Louise moved to Twinsburg in June 2001 and celebrated their 60th anniversary in December 2010.

“We wish her continued good health as she enjoys the company of her family, friends and neighbors,” Procop said.

Piro didn’t have much to say but it was evident how touched she was by the small ceremony.

“I just want to thank everybody,” Piro said.

Her family has been by her side for the past week and were glad to share in her celebration.

“This has been the last of a real whirlwind weekend and what a way to end it. Thank you,” her son Tony said.
