Friends of the Library, Forks Over Knives and More: At The Library

Check out hot new events and more at the Twinsburg Public Library

The would like to thank our Friends of the Library. The Friends are celebrating their 18 year anniversary at the annual meeting on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.

The Library hosted over 500 programs so far this year, not including story times, which were attended by 10,000 people.

For the Summer Reading Club held from June to August, the Friends donated $6,955 dollars for programs, prizes, and more. Their cash donation to the library thus far for the year is $18,000. Since their inception in 1994, the Friends have supported programming, furniture and periodical purchases  with monetary donations.

In addition the Friends volunteer their time and talents by hosting refreshments, running the Friends Shop and Monthly Saturday Book Sale, and with various library tasks.

Please support the Friends of the Library by becoming a member, visiting their gift shop located in the front of the library, or attending their book sale held the second Saturday of every month from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Language classes for adults begin in September. Spanish I begins Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. and lasts eight weeks. The fee for the class is $18.00. Sign Language I will be held on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. for eight weeks starting Sept. 10. The fee for the class is also $18.00.  Please register in the Computer Lab by calling 330-425-4268 ext. 4 or in person.

Forks to Knives on Thursday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m., view the documentary film, "Forks over Knives," and explore explores the ways in which a plant-based diet will improve health. Both doctors and film critics have raved about the film. Dr. Oz is quoted as saying, "I loved it, and I need all of you to see it." Roger Ebert says it is "a film that can save your life." On the following Thursday, September 20 at 6:30 pm, healthy lifestyle intervention coach and give specifics on to change one's diet and reduce the need for medications and protect against or even reverse disease.

The Suffragette - Our Certain Unalienable Right Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Just in time for the elections, Katherine Kohl will present the story of women’s suffrage starting in Europe and then settling in Ohio with an emphasis on the Western Reserve area. Learn about the struggle of women to get the vote - which did not come free! Bring your daughters to hear about this fascinating time in American history. Refreshments courtesy of the Friends. Kids Korner

Bricks4Kidz returns to the Twinsburg Public Library this fall for new adventures. Session One, Space Adventures runs Mondays: Sept. 10, 17, 24 and October 1, from 4-6:00 pm. Each session, the participants will learn about real-life space exploration and build models related to the NASA space program. There is a $40 fee for this program, which includes all 4 classes.

Registration for Red Cross Babysitting will be held on Friday, Sept. 14 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  Ages 11-15. Cost for the class is $30.00. Learn first aid, the ages and stages of children, and how to take care of them. Please bring a lunch, a doll or stuffed animal large enough to diaper and a pen or pencil. Registration for Twinsburg School District Residents begins Aug. 30 in person only. Proof of residency may be required. Registration for all other communities begins August 31 in person only. Payment is required at the time of registration. The cost of the class covers program materials and Red Cross certification. The Red Cross Child Care Class has been made possible by a generous donation of mannequins by the Cleveland Clinic.

Registration for all Youth Programs is available on the Children’s Place webpage and the TeenCrossings webpage. Some events require separate registration for each date. Registration for Youth Programs begins two weeks prior to the event date. 24-hour advanced registration is available for Twinsburg School District Residents.
