Wong Ruled Competent To Stand Trial, Second Evaluation Requested

Wong's attorney asked for a second opinion on his sanity evaluation.

After a hearing that lasted only a few minutes, Glenn Wong was found competent to stand trial in the murder of his wife, Tami Wong.

His attorney did not question that ruling, however, he did ask that Wong be given a second opinion on a sanity evaluation. The original evaluation by the state deemed Wong, 50, to be sane.

"I've reviewed reports of findings with Mr. Wong in great detail," Brian Pierce, Wong's defense attorney said. "It's our request that he receive a second evaluation for sanity. I don't believe it is necessary for competency."

Wong is accused of murdering his wife in their home on February 24. Their two children were home at that time.

He was indicted in March by the grand jury on two counts of aggravated murder, one count of murder, one count of kidnapping, one count of felonious assault and one count of domestic violence, according to court records.

The court granted Pierce's request that Dr. John Fabian, a clinical psychologist, conduct a second evaluation on Wong's mental state. Fabian's office is in Cleveland.

The evaluation will be at a discounted rate of $3,500, according to Pierce, and he has requested the state pay for the assessment because Wong lacks funds.

Wong was named in a wrongful death lawsuit earlier this year.

The next court date in the mur was set for Friday, Oct. 11 at 10 a.m.
