Twinsburg Police Department Hosting Rabies Clinic

Pets can get rabies vaccine on Saturday, Dec. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Twinsburg Police Department will host a rabies vaccination clinic on Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a press release. The Summit County Health Department is cooperating with the event at the department's 10075 Ravenna Road location.

On Oct. 17 the health department was told a dog, owned by a family near Liberty and Cannon Roads, tested positive for the raccoon strain of the rabies virus. It was sick for several days before dying.

"Unfortunately, the dog was not up to date on its rabies vaccinations,” said Twinsburg Chief Chris Noga said in a press release. “Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats are required by law and we want to provide the pet owners in our community with an economical and convenient way to ensure this is done.”

According to the county's health code, all dogs and cats must be vaccinated by the time they reach three-months old, and then a year later. After that year period, they should be re-vaccinated in 36-month intervals.

The vaccinations are $5 per animal. No appointment is necessary for the vaccination clinic, but it will be on a first-come-first-served basis. All animals should be secured, whether on a leash or in a carrier.
