Subway in Twinsburg Fitness Center Is on Track

Council approves the lease agreement and funding to begin the project

Twinsburg City Council gave the green light Tuesday night for the city to begin building a inside the .

After the city renegotiated terms of the contract, council voted 7-0 in favor of entering an agreement with Subway Real Estate, LLC. The city agreed to a two-year lease with Subway that would insure all the money Twinsburg spent on preparing the building would be recouped.

There were also changes in the contract that would regulate signage more strictly because it shares property with both and the fitness center. Those issues will be discussed with the Architectural Review Board at the necessary time.

City Council also voted unanimously to increase the Fitness Capital budget to account for the $15,000 for the Subway. Finance Director Karen Howse said the fitness center originally budgeted $43,000 for the year to purchase exercise equipment and make upgrades around the building. Because Subway’s lease wasn’t given approval until after the budget was finalized, council needed to increase the fund to $58,000 for 2011.

After the initial cost has been paid off, money brought in by Subway would add to the fitness center's yearly revenue.

Parks and Recreation Director Derek Schroeder said he will meet with a foreman next week to discuss a construction timetable.
