Toyota Recalls 2.5 Million Cars

The recall, announced Oct. 10, stems from over 160 reported fires that occurred in several models manufactured by Toyota.

Automakers probably wish recalls followed the same principles as lightning; unfortunately, Toyota has been struck with its second major recall in three years.

This time, 2.5 million cars have been recalled in the U.S. due to driver's side door fires caused by faulty power window master switches, according totoyota.com. For reference, the master switch is the button on the driver's side door that, if pushed, will block passengers from using their respective power windows.

Here's the list of cars involved in the recall:

The mega-automaker is urging affected owners to bring their cars into local Toyota dealerships to correct the potentially dangerous problem.

"The recall remedy will involve an inspection, switch disassembly, and application of special fluorine grease," said Toyota rep Brian Lyons in a prepared statement. "The switch inspection and repair will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner."

Toyota's other major recall came in 2009 after several of its models inexplicably accelerated, causing accidents, injuries and several fatalities.
