Super Twins: Choosing a Theme for Twins Days

A lot of thought and consideration goes into choosing how the Twins Days Festival will celebrate each year, including input from the sets themselves

The superhero theme for this year's is nothing more than terrific coincidence.

In a summer that boasted blockbuster hits like The Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers and The Amazing Spider-Man, it seemed like fate that the 2012 theme for the festival would celebrate that.

"It just seemed to fall right into place," Sandy Miller, festival office manager, said.

Miller said this theme was already chosen before they realized the movies were hitting the big screen.

Miller said they will field future theme suggestions from twins during the festival and after.

From there they narrow down the selections to several that are interesting and feasible to complete. Twins are even allowed to vote on which one they like best for the coming year.

"We try to narrow them down to three; whichever ones are most popular, easy to adapt and will work for all age groups," Miller said.

In 2011 the festival was a .

"The circus was one they thought would be fun and easy to do," she said. "It was just a fun thing. Being a twin is a circus."

The year before that was a western theme, which Miller said the twins built around nicely.

Coming up with a theme every year requires innovaton and creativity.

"Hopefully we won't run out of them," Miller joked.

Other themes from past years included Noah's Ark, double vision, a 50s theme and more.

"It gives them something else they can contribute to the festival," Miller said.
