Winter Weather Causes Closures, Outages

Twinsburg City Schools are closed today due to winter storm

Students and teachers enjoyed an unusually short week as winter weather that is rolling through the area forced the to close today.

The storm has already dumped several inches of snow and will continue throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service, Twinsburg is still under a winter storm warning until 4 p.m. today.

Theused its fifth calamity day this year, two days more than the allowed three. Students have already made up one , going to school Friday, Feb. 18, a day originally scheduled for in-service.

Unless legislation is passed in Columbus that will add another two days to the calamity days allowed for Ohio schools, Twinsburg plans on making up any more days during spring break.

Schools weren't the only ones affected by the winter weather. First Energy has reported 16 power outages in the Twinsburg area this morning and the has delayed opening until noon.

The NWS forecasts that another 3 to 5 inches may fall today in Twinsburg and winds will remain high late into the afternoon.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 17 to 26 mph.

The snow and high winds are expected to clear away by this evening.
