Living Through Construction

What's Up With The Renovation at the Library?

I appreciate the patience of our library patrons, as we go through this renovation project together. I have learned a lot. Most importantly real life is no where near "Income Property" or "Extreme Makeover Home Edition." Ty Pennington doesn't show up with a crew of 100 and complete your project in seven days. We do have an excellent contractor with Lauren Building, and our supervisor is keeping everything on track.

Behind the partition walls, the old desk has been removed, as has the tile floor, carpeting and 1993 wallpaper. New wall framing has gone up and now we are awaiting electricians to do their work. Everyone is asking me why it is going to take so long, and the main reason is the building of the new desk, which will be doneoff-site. An architect does a design, but shop drawings have to come back and get the approval of the architect, before any work can begin.

Many patrons have become used to coming through the rear door. Parking closer to the Fitness Center will alleviate some of the distance, and the crosswalks are there for everyone's safety. Many people have commented that they didn't know the back half of the building existed, and have become big fans of Children's Place and TeenCrossings. Those of us in administration are enjoying getting to meet patrons whom we otherwise not see on a daily basis.I'll try to give a weekly update and let everyone know how things are proceeding.

Thank you for your patience!
