DataOhio aims to promote transparent government

Two lawmakers have introduced legislation to promote transparency in Ohio government.

USPIRG last year gave Ohio a ‘D’ and designated it a “lagging state” because of a lack of transparency and online access to government spending. Anyone who has tried to find budget data online knows the ranking is accurate.

The DataOhio Initiative, a new effort to help improve public access to government records and budget data, could change things.

Sponors Rep. Mike Duffey, R-Worthington, and Rep. Christina Hagan, R-Alliance, last week introduced four bills that constitute DataOhio.
