Internet cafe owner hopes Ohioans will repeal ban of his business

Rob Dabish had been in the grocery store business for almost 30 years when he decided to try something new. Six years ago he found a way to merge his retail experience with his love of computer programming and interest in marketing.

He opened an Internet café in Toledo — and that’s when his troubles began.

The City of Toledo decided he was running an illegal gambling operation and brought charges against him in municipal court. The court ruled there was no “element of risk” with Dabish’s operation and that it didn’t constitute illegal gambling. That decision was upheld upon appeal.

Even after thousands of dollars in attorneys fees and two court decisions, Dabish is still fighting to save his business, but hopes Ohio voters will decide the issue once and for all.
