Kent State wins $1.2M judgment from former men’s basketball coach

A judge has awarded $1.2 million to Kent State University for a breach of contract by Gene Ford, the school’s former men’s basketball coach.
Judge John Enlow ruled that Ford breached his contract when he left Kent State to become the head coach at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. Ford was ordered to pay the $1.2 million in damages as calculated in the liquidated damages of his contract.
That contract provision said that if Ford resigned or terminated his employment with Kent State, the university would be entitled to liquidated damages totaling the balance of Ford’s annual salary due for the remaining length of his contract term.
