OH budget bill lets unions, corporations donate more money to caucuses

A little-publicized provision in the state’s two-year budget bill contains a nice perk for legislative caucuses – more money.

It’s not as if politicians don’t collect enough in campaign donations, but now they can collect even more.

Corporations and unions will now be able to donate up to $10,000 to the caucuses, the same as they can to political parties, to pay for office space, equipment and other operating expenses.

There are four caucuses:  the Ohio House Republican Organizational Committee, theRepublican Senate Campaign Committee, the House Democratic Caucus Fund and the Ohio Senate Democrats.  The Republican caucuses have their own buildings, while the Democrat caucuses have offices inside the Ohio Democratic Party building.
