The Old School

I grew up in Glenwood acres. I moved here from Cleveland in August of 1970 and entered into the first grade that fall at Wilcox. I am of the generation that went to every school that was in Twinsburg throughout my school years. I would like the Mayor and City Council to be open to the exploration of alternatives for refurbishing the Old School before a definite decision is made to demolish it. I went to the ARB meeting and also the town meeting and I have to say that I concur with many who feel that the decision has already been made by both the Mayor and most of the council members and our words spoken before them were just blowin' in the wind. I don't care whether the Old School is on the National Historical Register or not...you only have to look at it to see that it's an Antique. It may not have much significance to the Mayor and some council members, but it DOES have significance to many of us who grew up here, worked here for a long time and/or still live here. I HATE the way we are trying to look like every other burb out there...I moved back here in 1992 after being away for 10 years and was sickened even back then as to how much of the small town charm Twinsburg has lost. I used to boast to my friends when I lived in California about how small the town was (they laughed when I showed them a video that my dad had made for me, they couldn't get over how small our "downtown" was, but after watching a while, would begin commenting on how cool and pretty it was. I loved walking the square and looking at the homes and wondering about who used to live there way back when and where they worked and what they did for fun...it's kinda hard to do that looking at a Starbucks or a Paninis or a Giant Eagle. Please hold off on demolition...maybe one of us minions can come up with some definite good plans that wouldn't cost the city so much? Who know's, maybe we can get a big "refurbish the old school" party going and people can donate their time and efforts and materials as much as they can to help! I may not be famous, but I KNOW darn well I MATTER !
