The tragedy that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut last Friday is a stark reminder of how fragile life is.  As a father, I am deeply shocked and saddened.  Undoubtedly, it will take time for the criminal investigation to unfold and possibly give us answers to questions that we all have.  Until then, we must continue to remain resolute in protecting our children.

This morning, as I visited Dodge Intermediate, Wilcox Primary and Bissell Elementary Schools, I watched children, including mine, enter the buildings to begin another week.  A few told me they knew why I was there, but most waved and said hello just like any other morning that I've stopped by for morning arrival.  I also spoke with Superintendant Powers, each building's principal and a number of staff members.  Everyone is committed to our children's safety in our schools.

The partnership between the Twinsburg Police Department and the Twinsburg City School District is strong.  We have worked together for years to ensure our children have the safest possible school environment and we will continue to do so.  For the near future, we are increasing our presence at all buildings throughout the school day and both the Schools and the PD are already in the process of reviewing our particular pieces of the safety and response plans.  When the final report on the Sandy Hook Elementary incident is released, we will review that as well in order to learn from this senseless crime.  While I do not know what, if any, changes to school safety philosophy will emerge as a result of the Sandy Hook Elementary incident, I am committed to ensuring that the Twinsburg Police Department does all that we can to keep our kids safe.

-Christopher J. Noga, Chief of Police
