"It looks like it may have started where the refrigirator motor shorted out," Racine said. From there the fire spread throughout the kitchen, but no other apartments in the building were damaged, other than a little smoke odor.

Racine said it looked like she might have tried to put the fire out herself because of burns on her hands, but he can't be sure without talking to her.

It took crews only 30 minutes to knock down the fire. "It was a relatively small fire in the kitchen, even though it did a lot of damage," Racine said.

Departmentst from Oakwood, Macedonia, Reminderville and Hudson EMS assisted with extinguishing the blaze. No other injuries were reported by residents or firefighters.

Racine said it was the first fire in almost 25 years where they had a victim that needed rescued.

"That's not that terribly unusual in the suburb," Racine said, noting the high quality of materials used in houses and multiple smoke detectors in the homes.
