Fire Department Tests Out New Life-Saving Tool

Twinsburg firefighters got training on power tools to open up cars safely.

The Twinsburg Fire Department took delivery of over $48,000 of Genesis hydraulic rescue tools from Howell Rescue Systems last week and all three shifts received detailed instructions on their uses prior to being placed into service.

Gary Klaus of Howell Rescue Systems, who is also a Lieutenant with Warrensville Heights Fire Department, gave a two hour lecture prior to going over the tools with the TFD members.

The new tools replace aging equipment from three different manufacturers and are more than four-times powerful than the older equipment, which is imperative for use on newer vehicles utilizing high-tensile steel.

The new equipment is also lighter and provides more ergonomic features which will reduce rescuer fatigue and prevent possible injuries.
