Giant Eagle Gets Smoked by Tobacco Thief

For the third time a man has stolen tobacco from the Giant Eagle on Darrow Road

For this case, police won't be looking for the smoking gun, they'll search for the smoking man.

During a routine check of the on Darrow Road on March 29, a cashier at the grocery store told police about a theft an hour before.

The worker said a black man in his mid 30s, wearing a skull cap, jacket and ear buds, came through her checkout line asking her to unlock the tobacco case. She handed him what he asked for and said she would help him in a moment.

That's when he drifted away to another part of the store. It wasn't until she was busy helping other customers when he left. She asked if he paid for the tobacco and he said he did at the service counter.

With a suspicous feeling the clerk checked with the service counter. No tobacco had been purchased for several hours.

It turns out this was his third theft from the store. Catching him could be easy, however, as workers say he comes in at least once a week. Managers said they would review the video surveillance.
