Three men were arrested and charged in a string of car break-ins when they were found by Twinsburg police hiding inside a car early Friday morning, according to a news release.
Charged with felony theft and receiving stolen property were: Joshua Elliott, 21, of Warrensville Heights; Jeremiah Elliott, 20, of Shaker Heights; and Jordan Houston, 19, of Richmond Heights. They were taken to the Twinsburg jail and will be arraigned by video today.
According to Police Chief Chris Noga, At about 2 a.m. Friday morning police received a call from the Highlands subdivision off of Liberty Road on a report of people breaking into cars.
The officers discovered several unlocked cars parked in driveways that had been entered. A number of items were missing, including a laptop computer, cell phones, sunglasses, electronic device chargers, and cash and gifts cards, according to police.
None of the cars were locked.
At about 2:50 a.m. a Summit County sheriff's deputy was searching at the corner of Evans Way and Pam Court and foound three men in black clothing crouched down and hiding in a car, according to police. Police also found items on them that matched those that were reported missing.
One of the arrested men told police that they only entered unlocked cars, and came to Twinsburg because "they knew people had money out here."
Noga said the break-ins should be a reminder that people need to lock their car doors.
"This was great work by both our officers and Summit County deputies," he said. "However, these crimes were preventable. We encourage our residents to take their valuables out of their parked vehicles and to lock their cars while they are in their driveways."
What about the people who left the expensive items in their cars and left them unlocked outside?? They are just as much to blame!! This not the 1950's anymore where you can leave your car unlocked outside and run to the store and leave your house open!! Those times are gone. If you leave your car unlocked outside you are just inviting trouble in whether they are from outside of Twinsburg inside Twinsburg. Some of these people are living in a fantasy world, WAKE UP!!!
