Man Charged for Robbing Gas Station With Toy Gun

A Twinsburg man is accused of robbing a local gas station with a toy gun, according to the .

Herman Austin, 28, was arrested and charged with aggrevated robbery on Dec. 18.

According to the police report, the clerk told officers Austin pulled into the BP Gas Station on East Aurora Road at around 2 a.m. The clerk said Austin and another man purchased some items but as they were about to leave, Austin turned back to the clerk.

He told the clerk the cameras weren't working and that his people "own the store," saying they've stolen from it before. He told the clerk to buy him cigarettes and when he refused, Austin told him he had a gun and showed him the handle. The report confirmed that the gun was actually a toy.

Another customer walked into the store and Austin told them to give him the money, which they did.

After the customer left the clerk gave Austin a pack of cigarettes, afraid of what he might do. Austin then left the store. The clerk said five lighters were also missing.

Several hours later Twinsburg police got a call from the North Randall police saying they were chasing the car Austin was in. He was arrested and brought back to Twinsburg and charged. He then went to Summit County Jail and was held with no bond.
