Man Dead After 'Officer-Involved Shooting' In Solon

A man is dead according to multiple media reports after Solon Police say he fired gunshots after he fled a traffic stop on Bainbridge Road in Solon.

Police there confirmed that there had been an "officer involved shooting" on Sunday night and that an investigation into the matter would be handled by the Ohio Bureau of Investigation’s Special Investigations and Crime Scene Unit.

The police are not revealing details of what occured during the shooting, but media reports say the suspect is dead.

WKYC Channel 3 is reporting that officers were seen surrounding what looked like a tarp covering a body. Fox 8 News has reported that the Cuyahoga County Coroner's Office is on the scene. News Channel 5 reported that a Solon Police cruiser had been struck in the windshield by bullets.

According to police, an officer pulled over a car at about 9:45 p.m. Sunday on Bainbridge Road. During the traffic stop, the man then fled in his car and crashed on Sunnywood Drive.

Officers pursued and then "came under fire" from the suspect, according to police.

Police say the incident is currently under investigation and that the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will assume responsibility of the investigation of the incident.

Bainbridge Road between Huntington Drive and Creekside Road is closed, as is Liberty Road between Meadowdale Drive and Woodbury Avenue.
