Police Find Marijuana, Concealed Weapon During Traffic Stop

The following information was provided by the Twinsburg Police Department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

A Twinsburg man was charged with drug possession and carrying a concealed weapon after a traffic stop on July 14.

Matthew Gilghrist, 18, was pulled over at Glenwood Drive for following another car to closely.

During the stop officers noticed the strong smell of marijuana inside the car, and when they asked to search it, Gilghrist declined and said he was in a hurry.

brought a K-9 unit in and found a positive trace for drugs in the driver's side door. 

During a search of Gilghrist officers found knife in his pocket. When asked he told police he had another weapon, a pellet handgun, under the driver's seat next to a glass smoking pipe.

A marijuana roach and a baggy of marijuana were also found in the car. One of the three girls riding in the car tried to confess that it was hers, however, Gilghrist claimed it was his.

He was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon and following too closely.
