Solon Cop Will Keep His Job Despite Drunk Driving Arrest

Officer Christopher Petranic, arrested in Twinsburg, is suspended for 70 days without pay and other disciplinary measures, the result of a recently completed internal investigation

Solon Police Officer Christopher Petranic will keep his job after he was .

Police Chief Christopher Viland said that Petranic is serving a 70-day, unpaid suspension starting May 16.

In addition, Viland said Petranic will lose his seniority rights within the department, will be forced to go through more training before returning to duty and will be required to undergo "intensive treatment and testing requirements" for the next several years.

Solon police concluded its internal investigation of the situation May 16.

"I believe this resolution allows Mr. Petranic to rehabilitate himself both personally and professionally while at the same time maintaining effective and appropriate discipline within the department," Viland said.

Petranic, a 13-year veteran of the force, was arrested March 10 after crashing his car into a tree along Darrow Road in Twinsburg. According to the police report, Petranic had a blood-alcohol level of .238, nearly three times the legal limit.

Petranic's next court date is schedule for June 13 in Stow. He originally pleaded not guilty to charges of drunk driving and failure to control.
