Twinsburg Man Charged With Domestic Violence, Breaking Protection Order

On July 12 a Glenwood Drive family called for a couple fighting at the end of his driveway.

When officers arrived to the house at the 2200 block, they spoke with a 42-year-old Akron woman who said she was with another man, 46, from Twinsburg, who she had a protection order against.

The woman told police he had been harassing her at work and he came by that day to talk to her about lifting the order against him. She agreed and they parked her car in the Giant Eagle parking lot and drove together to a nearby bar.

After a few drinks she said he became "verbally abusive" to her and they left. She wanted him to take her back to her car, but when he didn't he started throwing her cell phone and purse out of the car along Glenwood Drive.

She told police that's when he grabbed her by the throat, choking her as he drove. She pulled the gear shift into park, and the car stopped in a driveway.

She said the man chased her down the sidewalk and started to hit her as she ran away. Police noticed scratch marks on her chest and that she was missing several finger nails.

The property owner who witnessed this said his wife called police and he went outside to stop the man from hitting her. He said the woman ran back to the car while neighbors chased the man down the street.

Police were unable to find him until a Post Road man called, saying he found the man walking, disoriented by Firelands Drive. Police arrested him and he was charged with domestic violence and violating a protection order, both felonies. 

He told police she was the one hitting him and throwing his things out of the car. He denied ever hitting the woman and said he ran from police because he knew he violated the protection order.

The woman was treated for her injuries, however, she was charged with violating a protection order, a misdemeanor.
