Chrysler Redevelopment Moving in the Right Direction

A lot split for the first redevelopment project was approved Monday night and final site plan approval could come next week

Things are looking good for the first phase of the Chrysler redevelopment.

The Twinsburg Planning Commission approved a lot split for a 9.4-acre parcel of the former Chrysler building. Matthew Weber of GBC Design, Inc. said he will submit plans tomorrow for final review and approval of the planning commission at next Monday’s meeting.

“All in all, I think we are at a point we should all be pleased we are moving forward with the tenant for this facility,” Weber said.

While he wasn’t able to say clearly the timeline for the project, Weber said it could be completed by mid to late next year, with the possibility of construction beginning in a few weeks.

Weber said they have taken an area that is all asphalt and will add 40 percent green space, which “far exceeds” the Environmental Protection Agency’s regulations. This, along with improvements to stormwater management systems will improve downstream rainwater conditions.

All this is great news considering several weeks ago the project appeared doomed after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service sent a letter to developers asking them to living in the trees on the property. Developers have moved the property altogether and avoided the problem.

This site is just one parcel of the plant being developed. In July, Larry Finch, director of planning and community development, said the entire lot could be parceled out into seven separate pieces.
