City Council to Vote on Extension of Contract With Waste Management, Inc.

City could pay a 2 percent increase in both 2013 and 2014

There's going to be some trash talk going on when City Council meets tonight at 7 p.m. at City Hall. However, it won't be the negative kind.

Council will vote on a resolution that would extend and modify the city's agreement with Waste Management, Inc., which ends in December, for three more years.

In the contract agreement going before city council tonight, Waste Managment agreed to keep the current rate of $13.35 a month per unit in 2012, but it will increase by two percent each year in 2013 and 2014. By 2014 the rate will be $13.89.

In the proposal Waste Management will continue to use the fuel factor table from 2005, when the agreement was originally made, which they say represents savings of $1,500 a month.

The trash removal company serves both residents and city buildings.
