City Council will Discuss the 'Road' Ahead

Council will vote on several pieces of legislation tonight on road improvement and construction

As Twinsburg City Council meets one last time before it’s summer recess, the conversation will move once again to road improvements.

When they meet tonight at 7 p.m. road discussion will revolve around three pieces of legislation.

Two items involve the planned reconstruction of SR 91 from Post Road to the Glenwood Intersection. Municipal Engineer Amy Mohr said the Ohio Department of Transportation has agreed to proposed changes to include construction of a roundabout at the Glenwood Intersection.

“This modifies the agreement to allow extra design work,” Mohr said.

In February, she said the city wanted to include the Glenwood intersection in the project because of the large amounts of traffic. A study by ODOT revealed constructing a roundabout would be the cheapest option and would reduce the impact of traffic both north and south of 91.

Now that the changes are official, it will require additional work, which means additional funding from both sides.

ODOT will increase their funding from $371,000 to $585,000 for the changes, while the city will adjust from $41,000 to $90,000.

The $49,000 increase from the city will also need to be approved by council for changing the contract with the GDP Group, who is the consulting firm for the project.

“Patching” the Holes

Another topic will be allowing additional funding to repair the roads in Twinsburg, especially along SR 91.

Mohr said after the original repair project was complete, they realized there was much more work that needed to be done.

“We were conservative in our amount of repairs based on our engineer’s estimate,” Mohr said.

The city budgeted $700,000 for the repairs this year, and because of the conservative estimates, only used $668,000. The additional funding will still put them under the original allotment.

Mohr said most of the money is being used on SR 91, which has many of the problematic potholes.
