Cleveland Clinic Helicopters Won't Land in Parking Lot Anymore

Twinsburg City Council approved a conditional use permit, allowing the hospital to create a second helistop

Cleveland Clinic workers at the Twinsburg campus and some helicopter pilots can breath a sigh of relief: The parking will no longer be a helistop.

City council approved a conditional use permit, allowing The to build a second helipad at its 8721 Darrow Road facility.

Planning Director Larry Finch said Tuesday the hospital  for instances when other hospitals need to transport patients, when their helicopter is inaccessible or if the pad is inaccessible.

As of now, hospital employees must clear spaces in parking lot for landings when the pad is inaccessible, Finch said.

“It’s a slightly reduced version of what they have,” Finch said in June. “It’s a smaller design used for a backup location.”

This won't increase the volume of flights to and from the hospital, however. The second helistop will only be used when the other is occupied.
