Election 2011: Summit County DD Board Looks for Renewal with Issue 25

Issue 25, on the Nov. 8 ballot, would continue funding services for the county's developmental disabilities board

This November the Summit County Developmental Disabilities Board is hoping voters will renew a 4.5 mill levy that would help continue support and services for disabled persons around the county with Issue 25.

What it is: Issue 25 will renew the 4.5 mill levy that accounts for 72 percent of Summit DD's operating funding, according to www.voteforsummitdd.org. By approving the renewal, it would only continue the existing tax levy, not adding any additional funding. Homeowners are expected to pay about $11.50 per month for every $100,000 in home value.

History: The original levy was approved in November 2005 and will expire at the end of December 2012. The renewal would begin in 2013 and last until December 2018. The Summit DD Board has offered service to nearly 4,000 residents by offering help with transportation, employement, child care, and intervention services.

The final count: If approved, the Summit DD Board estimates an annual income of $50 million. Because of forecasted real property values, they anticipate a 10 percent decrease each year, totaling $20.7 million less than the current levy cycle.
