Twinsburg Extends Deadline for Home Energy Program

Twinsburg's 'Look Good, Feel Good' energy efficiency program received two grants to help low-income homes save money on energy costs

Twinsburg is still accepting applications to help low-income residents make their homes more energy efficient.

Earlier this year City Council approved two grants from the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council (NOPEC) and Summit County’s Community Development Block Grant Fund. NOPEC awarded the city $25,000 and the county awarded $21,000, according to Larry Finch, director of community planning and development.

Through the city’s new “Look Good, Feel Good” energy conservation program for 2011, low-income residents will be able to apply for aid from the city to help them with energy costs inside and outside their homes.

“This will help us provide disadvantaged or low-income residents with upgraded heating, water-heater and air-conditioning facilities,” Finch said. The money will also be used to make weatherization improvements for homes.

Finch said the city will use the standard federal guidelines for household income to determine which homes are eligible. The program is only for homeowners in the city and excludes those who rent.

Notification of the program will be sent out through utility bills as well as through the city’s website. The city has only had two applications so far and will only be able to accommodate seven to nine homes, according to Finch.

Applications are available at Twinsburg City Hall in the Building Department at 10075 Ravenna Rd. The new deadline will be June 30, 2012.
