Quick Notes: Twinsburg City Council Meeting

Council approves resolutions for Liberty Park grant, 2011 bid list, and land transfer

There are many items to go through in a city council meeting, so here are some highlights of Tuesday’s Twinsburg City Council meeting:

  • Council heard a second reading of an ordinance that would allow the city to allocate 20 percent of revenues to the capital improvements fund and 80 percent to the general fund.
  • Council also heard a second reading on repealing an ordinance that allows land use variances from the codified ordinances of the city.
  • Another ordinance was read for a second time that would rezone property on the northeast corner of Highland and Darrow Roads to build a nursing home. This issue would be put on the ballot.
  • Council approved 7-0 an issue that grants Kent State University a conditional use permit to increase building height from 35 feet to 46 feet for the Creekside Drive project.
  • Council approved 6-1 a resolution to submit an application for a grant to help establish a trail along Liberty Road.  The project is estimated at $310,000.  The grant would supply $150,000 and the rest would come from Liberty Park gas royalties.
  • Council approved 7-0 an ordinance that the city would continue to use Kastner Westman and Wilkins Attorneys at Law as an employment law service with an estimated budget of $60,000.  Council also approved an emergency ordinance that they would be immediately notified upon reaching or exceeding $60,000.
  • Council approved 7-0 a resolution that allows a mutual land transfer between the city and Cannon One, LLC.  The swap of identical land spaces on Joshua T. Miktarian Parkway would help avoid traffic issues with future developments.
  • Council approved 7-0 a bid list for 2011 that includes the road program, striping program, manhole restorations, and other items.
