Twinsburg Intersections Named in High-Crash List

Find out which intersections are infamous for wrecks and traffic volume.

Four Twinsburg intersections were listed in a recent study of roads with a high number of crashes.

AMATS, otherwise known as the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study, collected crash statistics from 2010-2012 to identify the most accident-prone streets within highly traveled sections of Summit County.

The highest on the list was East Aurora Road and Darrow Road at No. 103. The intersection sees 32,580 cars each day and 38 crashes over the last three years.

The other intersections included:

  • #107. Aurora and Hadden Roads (20,665 cars per day)
  • #222. Glenwood Drive and Liberty Road (11,400 cars per day)
  • #229. Shepard and Ledge Roads (8,160 cars per day)
Various stats are used to calculate the ranking including average daily traffic, the severity of the accidents, the length of road and so on, meaning total crashes are just one of many factors used to determine overall rankings.

Akron's Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at North Howard and Main Streets, took the no. 1 slot due, in part, to the severity of its 70 crashes.

The AMATS study is intended to draw attention toward potentially unsafe roadways likely in need of redesign, and the study may be used by a community as a first step in the process of applying for federal Highway Safety Program funding.

Darrow Road was also named in the Top 20 Crash List for roads by AMATS in a different study.
