Are you tired of trying to make the impossible left turn from Twin Hills Parkway to Ravenna Road? Relief may be in sight.

approved a motion Tuesday night to have the city engineer begin planning and design for a new traffic signal at the intersection.

City Engineer Amy Mohr shared the results of a recent study for the intersection, which met three state requirements for a stop light. The state determined the intersection was busy enough, including rush hour, to reccommend installing a traffic light.

Mohr said the project could begin as early as 2013 at an estimated cost of $120,000.

Ward 2 Councilman Bob McDermott believes the traffic signal is a smart idea.

"I see no reason not to do it," he said.

One of the criterion the intersection did not meet was the number of crashes. Mohr said in order to meet the crash standards, there must be at least five in a one-year period.

"At Twin Hills, several crashes at this intersection would be corrected by a traffic signal," Mohr said via email.

An engineer from design firm URS Corporation recommended that a two-phase signal be installed, meaning the light would stay green on Ravenna Road until a car is recognized on Twin Hills Parkway.
