Twinsburg Patch: What attracts you to work in the Twinsburg School District?

Mark Maslona: First of all, I have twin five-year-old daughters, so I thought that might make the position a good fit! But seriously, the tremendous leadership from Mrs. Powers, Mr. Lenzo and Mrs. Teringo, among many others, made the situation very attractive. Also, having lived in Twinsburg for nine years, (1996-2005) I have always loved the small-town sense of community shared by such a wonderfully diverse population.

Patch: This position is more than just an athletic director. What challenges are you anticipating in this position?

Maslona: The athletic director position, in and of itself, requires so many hats to be worn that I do not see any unique challenges to having added duties. The goal for me remains to serve the Twinsburg community in the most fair, ethical and cheerful way possible. I will always strive to meet those goals!

Patch: Is there anything new that you hope to bring to Twinsburg schools?

Maslona: Mr. Popovich, and Mr. Silverthorn before him, have done such a tremendous job with the athletic department that I do not see a need for very many changes to be made. I will say that I intend to bring as much enthusiasm and commitment to serving the Twinsburg community as possible. I really cannot wait to get started!

Patch: You have an impressive resume as a coach (basketball, soccer and golf) at John Carrol University. How does your time there help you in the high school setting?

Maslona: I think all of my experiences help to shape the person I am today. I had a great time at John Carroll University and I think my experience there helps me to understand and work with coaches more effectively, after having been a coach myself. My experience as vice-president at Blue Streak Sports, Inc., has provided me with sound business and sports management skills. And, my athletic director experience at such a wonderful place like St. Peter Chanel High School has taught me all of the many facets that the AD job entails. In addition, being a husband and father has made me very understanding to the needs of parents and families on a day to day basis.
