School Board to Discuss Future of Budget Cut Options

The 's Board of Education will meet tonight to analyze and decide what budget cuts to make. The meeting will be in 's L-Pod large group construction room at 6 p.m.

Board President Ron Stuver said tonight should start to put things into perspective and help them decide what direction to take on budget cuts. They will review the collection of options including budget cuts, fees, and levies.

"This will help us for a dollar amount on the cuts we need to make," Stuver said.

Superintendent Kathryn Powers has spearheaded the task of talking to teachers, staff, and the community trying to figure out .

Stuver said the possible options will be grouped into three areas. The first group consists of choices that make the most sense and are easiest to make. The second will be more difficult, but could be cut if necessary. The final group will be the least desirable options that would be cut as a last resort.

The direction of tonight's meeting will be "clear but vague," according to Stuver, adding, "It will help us get to just how much in cuts, fees, and levies."

Powers will be officially given the direction and dollar amount at the Feb. 1 board meeting, making more clear and detailed decisions coming in February and March.
