School District, Teachers Union Agree to Contract Change

The Twinsburg Board of Education will likely approve an agreement on Wednesday to change and extend the contract between the and the Twinsburg Education Association.

Superintendent Kathryn Powers said via email that the district and teachers union agreed to change and extend the current contract.

Powers said changes include increasing employees' share of their health-care premium from 6 percent to 10 percent, starting next school year. The agreement also freezes the base salary beginning in the 2013-14 school year and continuing through the 2014-15 school year.

Next year teachers will get around a 1 percent pay raise. For 2014-15 the pay range will be between $40,000 and $88,000.

"I am very pleased that our teachers were willing to return to the bargaining table in the middle of a current contract and make concessions that will assist the district in meeting its financial challenges," Powers said in an email. "Their personal commitment to the students of the Twinsburg City School District is truly appreciated."

TEA President Nora Suder-Riley was unavailable for comment.

The two sides were in the second year of a contract that began in September 2010. If ratified, the new contract would begin Sept. 1, 2012.
